About Mistletoe in the Trees

In partnership with Synapse Publishing & Entertainment, Julia recorded the holiday single in October of 2023 at Montrose Studios in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Produced by award-winning Canadian producer Dale Penner, the song was brought to life by a group of local musicians with the addition of Nashville veteran Jason Mowery on fiddle.

In describing how the song came to be, Julia explained, "I was visiting family in Louisville, Kentucky in 2017, and we were out on a country drive to Bardstown to see some local towns and distilleries. I noticed on the drive that many trees had dwarf mistletoe clumps and, in the bareness of winter, they really stood out. When we got back to my sister-in-law's house, I wrote the lyrics down, and the music didn't take much longer. I imagined it as a straight Bluegrass song, as it references Kentucky, and I think the recording captures that. It was fun recording it so many years later, and out of the entire session this song was done in one take! It was great working with Dale Penner -- he's committed to creating the best recording possible, and after years of working in the studio he knows what needs to get done and how to do it. And Jason Mowery's fiddle is just the best thing that could have happened. I am grateful beyond words. I hope you enjoy it!"

Julia released her first EP in March of 2017 entitled 'Glenrio,' and her first full-length album of original songs, 'Keep on Walking,' in December of 2019. 'Keep on Walking' was nominated for a 2020 New Mexico Music Award for Best Country CD. 'Mistletoe in the Trees' will be officialy released on December 11th, 2023, and also part of an EP release of other new songs in 2024.
